Astley Hall in Chorley begins a new chapter with West Wing restoration

Set in the parkland of Astley Park, Astley Hall has been at the heart of Chorley life for generations. The historic house, with its coach house and grounds, is a favourite for family walks, school visits and summer events, and recent news suggests a bright future ahead.
In August 2025 Astley Hall, Coach House and Park was shortlisted in the Small Visitor Attraction category of the Lancashire Tourism Awards. The judging process is thorough, including mystery shopping, unannounced visits and interviews with an independent panel, ahead of a ceremony in February 2026.
Chorley Council has since shared news of restoration work at the hall. In January 2026 it announced that works were set to begin later that month on the West Wing, part of an ongoing effort to care for the historic building.
The project is valued at around £400,000 and has been supported by a mix of funders. The Wolfson Foundation, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the Friends of Astley Hall and Chorley Council have all contributed, a sign of how widely the hall is valued.
According to the council, the hall was set to partially reopen in April 2026, giving visitors the chance to return while the work continues to protect the building for the future.
The hall's history is also being kept alive in a more personal way. The Astley Memories project gathers stories from people with connections to the house and park. The council has said these memories will be shared in exhibitions in the hall and digitally, with displays planned in the coach house, and people have been invited to keep submitting their stories by email.
The wider park remains busy throughout the year. In July 2025 Astley Park hosted the Chorley Flower Show from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 July, one of the town's highlights of the summer.
