Some restaurants talk about local sourcing. At Eight at Gazegill in Rimington, the ingredients can often be seen from the window. The restaurant sits on Gazegill Organics Farm, a working family farm in the Ribble Valley countryside near Clitheroe, with views across the fields towards Pendle Hill.

The farm itself has deep roots. According to a profile of the farm, it has been worked by Emma's family for at least six generations, as far back as records go, and has always been farmed organically. Emma and Ian O'Reilly have been building the business that now includes the farm shop and the restaurant.

Leading the kitchen is chef patron Doug Crampton. The restaurant describes its menus as drawing on produce grown, reared and foraged on the farm, which means the cooking follows the seasons and the rhythms of farm life rather than a fixed list of dishes.

The approach has caught the attention of the Michelin Guide, which lists Eight at Gazegill by Doug Crampton and describes the cooking as field to fork. Its inspectors single out the home-reared beef as a highlight, especially at Sunday lunch, and note the pleasure of arriving along a narrow single-track road through the farm.

The farm's own produce is central to all of this. Gazegill's farm shop sells raw organic milk from its rare breed herd of Old English Dairy Shorthorns, alongside organic pork, lamb, mutton, rose veal, poultry and beef, all direct from the farm. Diners who enjoy their meal can often take a taste of the farm home with them.

The restaurant has also made a point of welcoming families. The Visit Lancashire summer guide for 2026 noted that children could eat free during the summer holidays, subject to terms and conditions, a generous touch for a destination restaurant.

It all adds up to a place that feels rooted in its landscape, part of a wider movement of Ribble Valley farms and kitchens working hand in hand.

Eight at Gazegill is on Dancer Lane in Rimington, BB7 4EE. Bookings are made directly through the restaurant's website, which also has the latest menus and farm news.
