Raine & Bea brings big lingerie expertise to a tiny Clitheroe boutique

Good things really do come in small packages. On Moor Lane in Clitheroe, Raine & Bea proudly calls itself the smallest lingerie boutique in Britain, and what it lacks in square footage it more than makes up for in expertise.

The boutique is run by Jenna Barnes, who has worked in the textile industry for more than 30 years. Her career has included designing for celebrities and for West End theatre, among them stage costumes for the musical Cabaret.

The shop first opened in 2018 and later closed for a time. In July 2023 Jenna, a dressmaker as well as a former costume designer, was delighted to take it on once again and reopen its doors to Ribble Valley shoppers.

Inside, customers will find the Raine & Bea label alongside other names including Studio Pia, Something Wicked and Tallulah Love. The selection reflects Jenna's background in design, with an emphasis on pieces that are beautifully made and a pleasure to wear.

One of the boutique's most popular services is its free bra fitting. Many women wear the wrong size for years, and a personal fitting in a relaxed, intimate setting can make a real difference to comfort and confidence.

The Raine & Bea brand has also been looking beyond the shop. In 2025 it relaunched online with Encore, a new diffusion collection designed to be more affordable, opening the label up to a wider audience while the Clitheroe boutique remains its welcoming home.

The shop has drawn attention well beyond the town, with local press noting its following among famous faces, and it has popped up for Christmas shoppers in Clitheroe too. Yet at heart it remains a small independent run by someone who clearly loves her craft. In a world of anonymous online shopping, there is something special about being looked after by a designer who understands fabric, fit and construction from the inside out, and who has dressed performers for the stage.
